No! Our balms jars are made from upcycled bamboo and bioresin (PHA). They have been tested to be non eco-toxic and because it does not contain plastics it will not breakdown into microplastics. The bamboo component breaks down into fibers (cellulose), nitrogen, carbon. The bioresin component breaks down into carbon dioxide, water.

Our jar has been designed to breakdown in < 90 days in industrial composting (ASTM D6400). If you do not have access to industrial composting or a kitchentop composting machine, you will need to dispose of your jar in the trash where it will break down in 20-30 years (as opposed to 400-500 years for conventional plastic).

Our material is also marine biodegradable and does not generate microplastics. Our jar material has been tested to be non eco-toxic (OECD301B). The jar will take 3.5 years to degrade in a marine environment - although we hope that it would never end up in the ocean or rivers!

While essential oils are great for aromatherapy and can treat acute skin concerns, they should not be used on skin daily due to risks of long-term skin damage. Here is a great article where you can read more.
